SAM Testbed

Prototyping of the SAM system is being done on a RedHat Linux platform. A set of 8 PCs are installed at FCC close to the Enstore test systems and are isolated from the Network by an NBase switch with a Gigabit uplink (to another Gigabit switch) which connects the testbed to Enstore test systems. Diagram of Enstore/SAM testbeds . One of these PCs is set up to act as a fake Robot+Enstore system, with a relatively stable version of the Enstore software installed on it. Files written to it go to a disk local to this system. This part of the system will only be used when the pnfs file system with which it is associated, is mounted and used by the other SAM servers. Normally the pnfs file system mounted and used corresponds to one of the HPPC department's Enstore test systems, hooked up to either the EMASS or STK robot.

The remainder of the PCs are used flexibly to run various combinations of servers and clients requesting services. Diagram of testbed configuration for SC98 demo showing one way of starting software on the testbed to simulate more than one station and possibly more than one project on each.

The hardware employed for the tests is shown below. Other pictures are also available 1 , 2 , 3 .
